How SCOPE Works Summer Camp Opportunities Promote Education, Inc. (SCOPE) is an independent, not-for-profit organization, has provided camperships for more than 15,000 children from low-income communities since 1991. Each year hundreds of children receive the benefits of summer camp through SCOPE from funds raised from foundation and corporate partners, individual gifts and fundraising events. By partnering with and providing "campership" funds to residential (overnight), not-for-profit camps, SCOPE makes camp experiences available to deserving youngsters. Only camps that are accredited by the ACA New York, New Jersey and Keystone Affiliates are eligible to receive funds from SCOPE. By working with only ACA accredited camps, SCOPE ensures that all partner camps commit to maintaining a high level of quality in administration, facilities, program and staff to provide a safe and enriching camp experience to children. Campership funding allocations are made to participating camps upon submission of required documentation for each camper. SCOPE's eligibility guidelines require that these children are enrolled in public school and qualify for the Federal Free or Reduced Lunch Program. Many camps recruit and enroll campers in partnership with schools and community agencies which work with the eligible children year-round. Parents may also apply directly to participating camps.
